Homework

Your child will have written homework every day, except Friday and days before a holiday.  Students will write these assignments in their planner.  The planner is to be brought to school every day. Homework is a review of previously taught concepts in math or language arts. Homework should be completed neatly and in pencil. If directions indicate it needs to be colored, it should be done so in crayons or colored pencils.  All homework must include the student’s name and is to be placed in the homework tray by the student upon arrival.

Students have been given a “My Math Homework Resources” envelope to keep at home.  Occasionally, students will bring home foldables or flashcards to assist with current math concepts.  These materials should be kept in the folder and used as needed as a resource on math homework assignments or to review for upcoming tests.

Reading an AR book is also part of your child’s daily homework.  Students should be reading every night. Their reading goals are based on reading for 25 minutes per day.  Children need to arrive at school each morning ready to test, as they will test on their book first thing in the morning and then go to the library to check out a new book to take home.  When students begin reading chapter books, it is not expected that they will complete a book daily.  However, they should be reading at least 10 pages per night and there will be frequent checks to see that they are making progress. All students must bring their AR books to school every day, even if they are reading chapter books.
