School and Classroom Behavioral Expectations

School and Classroom Behavioral Expectations

  • BE SAFE – Use classroom behaviors that promote learning.
  • BE RESPONSIBLE - Bring planners, homework, and library book every day.  Keep your desk and your backpack, organized.
  • BE RESPECTFUL – Show respect and a positive attitude toward your school, yourself and others

Class Dojo will be used to recognize students’ efforts and to redirect behaviors as well as a home and school communication tool.  This is year two for me with Dojo, so it continues to be a work in progress.

Occasionally, behaviors require immediate intervention with Mr. Towne or the Family Resource Center.  If this occurs, parents will be notified by me or by Mr. Towne.
Things to Remember.......

Things to Remember.......

Wednesday Folder
A weekly folder will be sent home each Wednesday.  This folder will contain notices from the office as well as the Focus – our schoolwide weekly communication newsletter.  The folder will also include your child’s work from the previous week.  Papers which have been entered in the gradebook, will have a score on them.  You will notice that some papers may have a stamp, indicating that the work was completed, completed together, or checked together.  Work that was completed together or self-corrected will not have teacher marks on them.  Please remove all student work and review with your child. Students should return the folders on Thursday.

Homework
Your child will have written homework every day, except Friday and days before a holiday.  Students will write these assignments in their planner.  The planner is to be brought to school every day. Homework is a review of previously taught concepts in math or language arts. Homework should be completed neatly and in pencil. If directions indicate it needs to be colored, it should be done so in crayons or colored pencils.  All homework must include the student’s name and is to be placed in the homework tray by the student upon arrival.
Students have been given a “My Math Homework Resources” envelope to keep at home.  Occasionally, students will bring home foldables or flashcards to assist with current math concepts.  These materials should be kept in the folder and used as needed as a resource on math homework assignments or to review for upcoming tests.
Reading an AR book is also part of your child’s daily homework.  Students should be reading every night. Their reading goals are based on reading for 25 minutes per day.  Children need to arrive at school each morning ready to test, as they will test on their book first thing in the morning and then go to the library to check out a new book to take home.  When students begin reading chapter books, it is not expected that they will complete a book daily.  However, they should be reading at least 10 pages per night and there will be frequent checks to see that they are making progress. All students must bring their AR books to school every day, even if they are reading chapter books.

Snacks
Your child may bring one snack for the 10:20 recess.  We ask that they do not bring candy or drinks.  There is a water fountain on the playground.  Items like fruit, veggie sticks, chips, cookies, or crackers are appropriate for a morning snack.

Water Bottles
Your child may bring a water bottle to school.  Please make sure your child’s names is on the bottle.  They are kept on the counter near the drinking fountain in the classroom since students frequently have their computers on their desks.

Restroom Use
Students are expected to use the restroom during recesses.  Students may use the restroom during independent time in class, as long as this privilege is not abused.  They are required to sign out when they use the restroom during class.  Please let me know if your child has any special circumstances that require frequent use.

Toys
Please do not allow your children to bring toys, gadgets, valuables, and other playthings to school.  They often cause classroom and playground disruptions.  If your child has something to share which is related to a topic we are learning, please make arrangements with me in advance.  If a child brings an item to school that disrupts the learning process, it will be placed in the “June Box.”  Students know that items will be returned on the last day of school, unless parents come in to pick them up.

Book Orders
Book orders will be sent home each month.  I encourage, book orders may be placed online using a credit card.  You will need the following information for online orders:
Website – scholastic.com/readingclub
Teacher code - N999R
You may also make payment with cash or check.  If you are paying by check, please make all checks payable to the book club you are ordering from.  Do not make them out to the school or teacher.
